Join Gemma for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours between 12pm-8.30pm for a fun sewing day to create a pair of espadrilles
Sizes 35-45 should be available at check out - when they are gone they are gone - you may be able to switch on the day if your chosen size is unavailable - we'd recommend sizing down, so if you are a typically a 39.5 opt for 39)
There will be no official start time, Gemma will be on hand from 12pm until the latest arrival time of 6.30pm to get you started and it is hoped that everyone will muck in and help each other if it gets busier during the day.
In 2 hours you will have sewn both fabric tops for your shoes and have started hand stitching them on to the first espadrille sole, you will then be able to to take home your needle and extra thread to finish them both off at home. To do this option you need to arrive by anytime between 12pm and 6.30pm (we will be finishing up at 8.30pm)
In 4 hours you should have a pair of espadrilles finished. To do this option you need to arrive anytime between 12pm and no later than 4.30pm as we will be finishing up at 8.30pm. (although please note the hand sewing can be quite tiring on your hands so you may prefer to take home a needle and finish the 2nd at home after a rest so coming by for about 3 hours (so arriving by 5.30pm)
Ideally you will know the basics of using a sewing machine for the fabric tops but we can sew them for you if you have not used a sewing machine before (there will not be time to do a beginners lesson on how to use our machines) but you can still prep the tops for us to sew and you'll be hand sewing those to the soles which is the biggeest stage of the process!
Why is this workshop so reasonably priced? Gemma went a bit wild for buying espadrille soles a few years ago and there never seems to be time to offer this quite long workshop so it is being phased out but we thought we'd do it in a more fun way than simply selling the soles. You wil be more than welcome to buy extra soles after the workshop at a super discounted rate if you fancy making more!
Please bring your OUTER FABRIC (cotton best, avoid stretchy) this can simply be a couple of FAT QUARTERS which are available at Home Bargains, Hobbycraft etc.. We also sell packs for £6.50. We will provide the thicker lining materials in neutral colours, if you do not have outer fabric we will get out some cotton scraps but please note this will eat into your making time & the choice will be limited.
Tea, coffee and biscuits available throughout but feel free to bring additional snacks/lunch/dinner if you plan to stay for longer or there are plenty of options nearby.
