Tufting - Tuft a Rug Workshop!

  • Lark Design Make, Cardiff (map)

Join Gemma for an introduction to using a cut-pile electric tufting gun to create a rug!

Option 1 : You can make a MINI 30cm x 20cm rug (same size as an A4 piece of paper) OR 3 x 10cm coasters, which can be fully finished & taken home at the end of the 4 hour session - this is great as a basic intro to this craft.

Option 2 : You can opt for a STANDARD 50cm x 50cm rug (our most popular option) for this you will tuft non stop for 4 hours during the time you choose here and you will then NEED to return for 90 mins another time to complete your rug, more about this below

Option 3 : We have one LARGE 100cm x 100cm rug making frame, for this you will need to join the 4 hour session you book here then we'll be in touch to organise other times you can come in and complete your rug (or drop us an email before booking) it will probably take up to another 12 hours and will probably need at least 3-4 more visits!

More info about part 2 (for rugs over 50cm) - after tufting your rug it will be left with latex glue on which needs to dry for at least 12 hours, you'll then need to return to the studio for an additional 90mins for the finishing stages of shaving & backing. (the workshop cost is for both parts) You can book your part 2 dates after you have booked the main part (you can review the part 2 dates available HERE but please do not book one until you have booked part 1 - the link will also be in the booking email)

For all options you will need to come with a rug design idea, it is important to note that tufting is easiest when done standing up and requires holding the 1kg tufting gun for long periods - so it is a great workout craft but might not be comfortable for all.

Upon booking you will receive a detailed email with a lots of links to inspirational rug designs and lots of top tips, you can send us your idea in advance if you want to check its suitability.

At the studio we have a choice of over 50 colours of yarn which can be selected on the day.

Age : We'd suggest a minimum age of 14 years old to join independently due to the weight of the gun & the patience needed for the process. We would be open to a child aged 11-13 joining with a parent or guardian who would be able to help them occassionally, It is not suitable for age 10 or younger.
